Three main types fans

There are three main types of fans: the fixed fan, the brise fan, and the folding fan. The fixed fan is rigid. It may be shaped a leaf, a rectangle, or an oval, to which is attached a handle. The brise fan is composed entirely of sticks, which are held together at the base by a cord or rivet and along the top by a ribbon. The brise fan probable originated in China, around after the second century A.D. The folding fan was invented in Japan in about the eighth century.
The leaf or mount of a folding fan is usually made of paper, silk, or very fine leather. Thestick may be ivory, sandalwood, bamboo, tortoiseshell, or some other rigid material. All three types of fan continue to exist today.
